The Process

Producing glass aggregate for use in concrete backsplashes, countertops, and tables is no easy feat.

First, we collect glass bottles, and separate them into colors.

Next, we clean them. They soak for two days, and we scrub the labels off.

Finally, the fun part: we smash the glass into different-sized pieces. The smaller the shard, the more glass can be used in a concrete piece.

What is the No Waste concept?

It’s just like it sounds!

We work as hard as we can to prevent waste in all of our projects. When there are leftover pieces, we use them in other projects.

To make the circles in Tavio’s backsplash, we used old PVC pipe. We re-used the forms from the backsplash to make sample tiles. And those sample tiles will be re-used in a shelf, which we’re building with wood that probably would have ended up in a furnace.

Recycling is a large component of our work, and we love working with locally cut and milled wood.

What’s the point?

Glass takes one million years to decompose in a landfill. But it again becomes something beautiful when it is reused or recycled.

In the same way, Kopa Concrete Design is hoping to do something beautiful by choosing to use recycled and found materials. Our model champions sustainability.

We use a holistic approach to design. It’s not limited to one product — like concrete countertops. It’s the whole thing. In this way, we can take on any project, large or small.

What does Kopa Concrete Design do?

If you can dream it, we can make it. Countertops, tables, sinks, wood, concrete, whatever else. We’ll collaborate to realize your idea.
